Where to get the best ice cream in Stockholm

If you’ve ever visited Scandinavia, you may have noticed the passion for ice cream in these Northern European countries. Even in the winter, ice cream is a treat of choice and part of Nordic culture. Sweden, Finland and Denmark eat the most ice cream of all European countries!

On my latest visit to Sweden, I was on a mission to find the best ice cream in Stockholm. It helped that it was July, and an ice cream cone perfectly complements sunny days on the glittering waterfront of the city. Here are the best ice cream shops I found in Stockholm.

Gelato Caput Mundi

A cutie of a place in Södermalm, Gelato Caput Mundi is housed in a tiny kiosk in Axel Landquists park. It’s more traditionally Italian gelato than any of the other places I’ve tried, with the menu in Italian and featuring flavours such as zabaglione when I visited.

Their gelato is made with traditional Italian processes and with ingredients direct from Italy. No wonder it’s so good!

Snö

Snö Gelateria is a family-owned and operated gelateria in Stockholm, Sweden. The company was founded by Kenneth Erlandsson and his partner Cinzia Edman.

Snö Gelateria's approach to ice cream is simple: they use only the freshest and highest-quality ingredients to create delicious, authentic Italian gelato. They also take great care in crafting their flavours, constantly experimenting with new combinations and ingredients. It’s the fun flavour combinations that make Snö interesting and worth visiting. For example, the flavour pictured above is tahini, brown butter and lemon zest.

Snö also makes beautiful and simple lunches of pastas or sandwiches.

Snö Gelateria has four locations: Odengatan, Kvarnholmen, Hornstull and Täby.

La Gelateria SoFo

La Gelateria SoFo is a hidden gem. Unassuming at first, and on a busy street full of ordinary shops, La Gelateria SoFo isn’t trying to be overly trendy. Instead they are providing high quality gelato with super friendly service. This is another place with a strong Italian heritage, but it also brings forward inventive Scandinavian flavours.

The scoops of ice cream are very generous here. I tried the coconut and the lime, both of which were delicious and refreshing.

Skeppsbro Glass

Skeppsbro Bageri is one of the most well-known bakeries in Stockholm, right on the waterfront in Gamla Stan. Next door to the bakery is the ice cream bar, which is the largest outlet of organic ice cream in Stockholm.

Because of the view and the generous seating area out front, this is the perfect place to stop for a rest after visiting the picturesque old town.

Glassverkstan Skeppsholmen

On the isle of Skeppsholmen lies a tiny little window dispensing some of the best ice cream in Stockholm. Glassverkstan Skeppsholmen is my personal favourite of all the ice cream I tried in Stockholm.

The lemon cheesecake flavour is incredible, plus they offer different favoured cones. I tried the pear cone, which was suprisingly flavourful. The rosemary and sea salt ice cream was also great.

This little kiosk is not too far from the Moderna Museet and Nationalmuseum, so it’s a great place to stop after visiting an art museum in Stockholm.

Fosch Artisan Pâtisserie

Fosch Artisan Pâtisserie is well-known for its beautiful pastries and confectionary, and in the summer it provides incredible soft serve creations. Changing throughout the summer with seasonal ingredients, it’s based on a Madagascar vanilla soft serve.

Not only delicious, the ice cream desserts are beautiful and this is a show-stopping place to get a summer treat.

Kungsholmens Glassfabrik

How does saffron ice cream sound? You can get it at Kungsholmens Glassfabrik, a traditional ice cream producer in Sweden. They were founded in 1930 and their factory in Kungsholmen is a must-visit for any ice cream lover.

You can buy a serving in the shop or take home half litres to enjoy later.

Some exciting flavours include cardamom, turkish pepper, and tonka bean.

Triple Oh!

Triple Oh! does it all. Not only ice cream, they also serve breakfast and lunch from their small location in Nybrogatan. They focus on high quality, artisanal food and had their start at the famous Rosendals Trädgård in 2021.

The shop is beautifully designed and sells fun ice cream flavours such as cucumber and aquavit and toppings like green gooseberry with gin. They make waffle cones which sit in the ice cream cups, meaning you get the best of both worlds with your ice cream order.
